I'm hoping someone here can enlighten me.

I graduated in the top 10 of my class from an accreditated nursing program with a Bachelor's in Nursing in 1999. However, for various reasons I never sat for my boards. I contacted the University I graduated from, in Ohio, to seek information on how I can prepare and sit for the boards. They said they still have all my paper work and according to what they know all I have to do is request they send my paper work to the Board to sit for the examination. Seems  too simplistic!

I have recently re-located to Florida. I have been looking to take a refresher course (online), but all the one's I can find require that you have already obtained an RN licensure.

I have searched the National Council of State Boards of Nursing, Ohio Board of Nursing and Florida Board of Nursing along with many other sites with no definate eligibility requirements. Perhaps there's something I'm overlooking or just not zoning in on. Just take the NCLEX, pass it, & presto? That just doesn't sound right.

Can someone please offer me information on this subject? Any leads would be much appreciated.
Thank you very much in advance!

Since it has been a few years since you graduated, I would recommend taking an NCLEX prep course.  There are several options to take-- Kaplan's comes to mind.  A refresher course is not the route to take for you as you have already found out, these courses are intended for those who have practiced as a nurse in the past and have been out of the industry for awhile.

And yes, you are on the right course in contacting your current state board of nursing (in this case, Florida) to take your board exam here. (Even though you graduated in Ohio).  Good luck and please let us know how is it going!

BTW, I assume you intend on living and working in Florida.  Are you in any type of clinical setting now?
