Shifting from nights to days.. so yes, you guessed it.  I am having a hard time.  I wonder if there has been a study done on the affects of shift work on the body.  I know for sure that I have been a night nurse for years now.. for the most part and I can definitely tell that I have permanent bags under my eyes.  LOL!  My family has accepted the fact that I sometimes don't make any sense right after I get off shift especially after my 4th straight shift.  But then again, it has been awhile since I have done those... or at least it just feels like a long time.

Here's one thing I have noticed:  I gripe about working too many hours, but now that I actually have a "normal" schedule.. heck, I am actually scheduled days for a while, I am starting to feel insecure.  O goodness!  It is almost 1A and I am wide awake... here's the sad thing, I need to be up in 4 hours.

Any tips on how to make this night owl the early bird???

Hi JillT322,

It has been a week or so, how are you doing with your transition from nights to days? For me, I just had to get my body tired and re-train it. I couldn't sleep at night for about a week or so, but having to get up at 5:30 for day shift made my body and mind tired... so then the next night, I found it easier to fall asleep. But, I did find that I would get to bed as soon as I got home. I didn't see my boyfriend (now husband) for a long time during this transition stage as I was either asleep or at work. My body adjusted, but expect to make mood adjustment, food adjustment, etc.... I had to literally wean myself from the night shift. Now, are you switching back and forth to day/night or are you staying in days?

Dunkin Donuts coffee was my best friend for a long time! Good luck!
