Hi there,

My vet and I agreed on the formulary (upper end) dosing for the antibiotic Baytril for my rabbit at 15 mg/kg b.i.d. My rabbit weighs 3.4kg. Am I correct that he should get ~51 mg. in the morning and 51 mg at night for a total of 102 mg daily?

The reason I ask is because I just found out that my doctor gave me 30 mg (0.3 ccs of a 100 mg/ml solution) 2x daily to give IM. (I couldn't tell initially b/c the solution was diluted with saline for IM use.)

Did I fail at math, or did my vet change her mind about the dose? (It seems to me that she gave the bunny something closer to 9 mg/kg b.i.d?)

Thanks!

Cliffs notes -- Vet and I agreed on a dose of 15mg/kg b.i.d on a 3.4 kg bunny. I'm coming up with 51 mg 2x a day and my vet gave me syringes with 30 mg (to give twice a day). Am I doing something wrong?
