Hey, this is great! I don't have SHOWTIME so I'm glad I can watch the show for free, right?

Really? Are you endorsing this garbage? The Center for Nursing Advocacy would have a field day with this show. A disgusting portrayal of real nursing.

So, Hollywood is off the mark, then?

Oh my God-----it made me want to vomit. Sex at work, drugs at work----the only thing I saw as decent was her knowing the head injury had bigger issues than his leg. The rest was pure trash.

I thought it was entetaining and that was it! Its a show for entertainment, people!! Not reality! But knowing how stressed I have been sometimes there are a lot of things that made me laugh. Beleive it or not, I looked this up and it is loosely based upon a real nurse!!

Your giving it your perspective. I know Showtime will be interested in your feedback positive or negative. We want to be able to present everything out their for the nursing community to see. I also know this is television, but what do nurses think about their representation?

Well, if SHOWTIME wanted to provoke, they hit the mark with this show. But, as far as reality?? No, not even close. I mean, yes, I know there are nurses who have drug problems, marital problems, have time to relax in the chapel during a shift????? But to be portrayed by ONE nurse. I mean, and I thought I HAD ISSUES. I really feel like a saint NOW.

But, seriously, I will have to watch the second episode to give it a chance. I don't feel very comfortable with this nurse portrayal at all. And for all non-nurses out there, this is NOT how we are. But, it does touch on several issues that's facing the profession-- I just don't feel comfortable watching it on TV.

I enjoyed it. Again, ssome of the parts such as the affair and stuff are made for tv but it also showed the daily compassion and dealings nurses have with doctors and patients. Its had when you have ethical questions. I don't know one nurse who hasn't had questions. Again, this is broader for what its worth but i thought was entertaining. Not he best light of a nurse, but it showed a nurse with heart (except for her significant other!!)

It's Showtime people. What does everyone expect? Have you seen the other shows on Showtime or on HBO? They are edgy, they are liberal, they drop the F word, there's nudity, etc. That's why they aren't included in basic cable. Look at the other shows on Showtime - Weeds - drugs, Dexter - a serial killer, Secret Diary of a Call Girl - a female escort, Californication - drinking, drugs, women, etc... Or have you seen Nip Tuck on HBO? It's about two plastic surgeons in Florida, and the show is notorious for it's graphic sex, violence, and you should see the things that these two doctors and their families get into. Serious ethical questions are raised by the way in which the characters act at times, but it's entertainment and is not to be taken seriously, nor does it represent doctors. People are not going to watch Nurse Jackie and think - so that's how nurses are! On the other hand, it does raise some questions as to whether or not these things truly go on. Such as health care professionals who use drugs, or would anyone ever sign a dead person's ID so that a dying person might have a chance to live because of the organ?

I would agree. You have to take it with a grain of salt. It's a TV show, not real life. It's like saying "House" is a real portray of doctors, or "Rescue Me" is right on about firefighters.

Well said, Lydn. I agree. It was meant to be edgy.

I always enjoyed Edie Falco's work from her days on The Sopranos - it's interesting to read the comments from professional nurses on whether the show should reflect 'reality' or be entertainment. Thanks to the folks at NurseTogether for making both the sneak peak at Nurse Jackie as well as the community's comments available.

I actually liked it, but I almost feel bad saying that since so many other nurses feel the show is insulting. I just feel that it's entertainment, and that there are a ton of other shows that could be considered poor representation of other professionals such as doctor's, cops, firefighters, etc.

I'm not a nurse, I have a work history of 30+years as a respiratory therapist and now almost 5 years as a physician assistant. My experience with nurses is pretty extensive. I suffered from the politically strong armed nurses at almost every hospital I worked at, I am aware of the efforts by nursing to minimize the work of other health care professionals including physicians. In short my opinion of nursing is that you simply have too high of an opinion of yourself. I'm not a fan of the profession but as individuals I have known a lot of good nurses that are also great people.

I watched this first episode and do not think I saw anything that resembled the nurses I have known over the last 40 years. Actions taken by the star of the program may be ones that some people have a desire to do like the scenes where the ear is thrown down the toilet. NO nurse I have known would do such things as this one did. Not a show that is deserving of being on the top of any play list in my opinion.

The damage this series will do to the medical profession in general is just horrible.

I was really looking forward to a show about nursing as I am a Nurse Practitioner and I like to see people advocating for the hard work we do in the hospital, but I am a very busy person and don't appreciate wasting my time on poor quality entertainment, like this show "Nurse Jackie." Like the masters of Art- Picasso, Michealangelo, etc...and the great composers- Mozart, Beethoven, Schumann...I like QUALITY! When someone get's on tv to act, that's one thing ... but when an ENTIRE group of people (Nurses and really the ENTIRE health care industry) are misrepresented as drug-addicted, sex-crazed people, then viewers are exposed to garbage that is in some twisted way equated to common standards or practice in the Hospital. In the real world, Health care workers, like nurses, pharmacists, doctors, are capable of following hospital polices (i.e. not having sex in the work place with the pharmacist, or a doctor not grabbing a nurses breast because he lacks impulse control, it's all just so totally inappropriate). Not to say these things have never happened, but in my experience nothing to this degree would have or will ever be tolerated in any respectable institution. For all those people (Doctors, Nurses, Lawyers, and any other professionals) who think this is "just" a show or "merely" entertainment, let me let you in on a little secret. Every time one of you turns the tv on to participate in this JOKE of a show, you are advocating the trash that has DIRECTLY affected the decline of humanity. Furthermore, when you get on here and DEFEND, not only watch the filth, but then DEFEND IT, you are just saying, "HEY TV INDUSTRY.... HOLLYWOOD IF YOU CAN HEAR ME. I DON'T CARE IF YOU REPRESENT OUR DAUGHTERS, MOTHERS, WIVES, AND SISTERS, AND SO ON AS WHORE-NURSES, WHO STEAL MONEY FROM CRAP PATIENTS AND FORGE DONOR SIGNATURES. WE JUST DON'T CARE IF OUR PERSONAL RIGHTS AND WISHES ARE VIOLATED. BECAUSE AFTER ALL, IT'S JUST ENTERTAINMENT, RIGHT?" Lastly, I pose you this question, to those who justify this type of show as "mere entertainment," what if some nurse like Jackie was your nurse, would you be laughing then?
