I found Nurse Jackie...
funny
entertaining
refreshing
a break from the real world
full of heart
not completely like real life and not completely fiction

Yep, sometimes I dont have time to pee, but nobody is going to watch me on TV either. This is for entertainment. Don't find it entertaining? Don't watch it. I don't find political talking head shows entertaining and I don't watch them.

I love the show and can't wait for the next episode.

I agree - I thought it was funny and very entertaining. It's a TV show, not a documentary.

I agree that Nurse Jackie is not a nursing show that portrays the behaviors of a true Nurse. It exactly fits the sterotypes that are out there. Nurses have access to all types of drugs. Nurses are looking for the easy life by "hooking up" with a rich doctor. I am not too impressed by the show and other than watching it for this class I have, will not watch another episode. A true show about nursing and the profession of nursing is long overdue.

Does anyone truly expect a totally realistic and accurate show created by our media? I know that I certainly don't...

ShowTime and TNT are in the entertainment business(along with most other cable networks), they are not in the business of educating people or what truly goes on within a hospital or a courtroom or in the news. They skip over the boring and tedious parts of everyone's job and exaggerate the more interesting parts.

I think that we should just be happy that those people who determine what shows are created have Finally decided that our profession is one worth using as the main subject for some shows.

I guess we can have the vicodin popping House, brilliant, rude etc. and that is ok with the AMA. Do many of the physicians behave in this manner?
Just curious.
Dark comedy. That is ok, and does it happen, maybe it has, does, maybe not. Why not enjoy it for what it is. There are many aspects that I really do not like, such as the forging of signatures, the pharmacy indiscretions, which with our pyxis systems, I don't see that happening, there are theifs out there, sorry, but there are. We have some unethical nurses practicing. I think the AMA needs to spend more time promoting nursing instead of playing with Congress. Put us out there, show what we really do, but don't react when this type of satire comes out. We do nothing to promote ourselves Nurses. We need to.
I am not condoning this type of representation at all, I really don't care for it, but I do find it funny. I have to be honest.
What we need to do is get out there, nurses, and promote ourselves. Show what we are, do, our day. Promote ourselves like Walmart, Target. This takes our ANA and state organizations to help. The RN's in Congress could help here as well. Do they?
Just some thoughts to share and discuss. :)

So you are stating that all nurses minimize your efforts? I don't believe that is the case and maybe different approaches. I worked with excellent respiratory therapists and PA's. I have great respect and have learned a great deal from them. We are supposed to be a team, and with that type of attitude going in, I can see a situation going south quickly.
Some nurses do have a high opinion of themselves, but to say we all do is quite unfair. You have not presented any basis for this opinion, examples, reasons, just general statements.
I feel sad for you and sorry your experiences have not been more positive. Perhaps you need some soul searching and self-evaluation as to why this continues?
I wish you well.<img src=/DesktopModules/NTForums/themes/green/emoticons/cool.gif width=20 height=20>

I got the first episode on my Kindle in the screenplay format. I was intrigued. After watching Edie Falco portray Nurse Jackie, I am hooked. Yes, Jackie is an inaccurate representation of the nursing profession. Very few of my co-workers have as many pecadillos.
But hey, we all know a "Jackie" at work. I find myself having more compassion for some of my less-than-saintly co-workers after watching Jackie. After you take away the human-ness (addiction to sex and drugs) Jackie portrays the universal characteristic that is nursing,,,, SHE CARES! And she cares by stepping into her patients' reality and feeling what they are feeling and trying to make their lives better. Yes, Jackie is addicted to drugs and elicit sex, but she also posesses the HEART OF A NURSE. Jackie is a real nurse; part Angel, part human. We are a unique part of the human race. Nurses have a unique need to make others feel better. Nurse Jackie does that and makes no apoligies for being human. I can't wait for the new season.

I started to watch it and I turned it off!!!! I sure would not want to be working with the likes of her.It is a terrible example of nurses.
