If you finished acquiring local license, US license, IELTS, CGFNS, visa screen, visa application case pending, no available staff nurse position, no experience, no job! What would be the best thing to do? Be a call center agent! Life sucks!

| take up medical transcription course from tesda/or any other school,work as a healthcare associate at a call center,take your MAN/MSN,just pay the damn hospital to gain experience...go a abroad?but you have to be financially ready... |

Hi. I have almost the same problem but I have not yet taken any foreign exams. I passed the local board exam last June 2008 but I still cannot find a decent nurse job. Most of the hospitals here require training fees (as we all know), and that doesn't guarantee that they will absorb you in the hospital.
Currently, I am working in a bank, very much unrelated to our profession! My work is okay but I still feel the "calling". Although I really wanted to work as a nurse, I have no choice but to consider other jobs, as long as I can do it.  I miss everything about nursing... 
But still, I am hoping that I can be a real nurse one day!

| I'm already a call center agent but I resigned last may of this year. I will undergo training in a certain hospital but I paid for it. I feel exploited. |

Well G-Anne if you want my advice don't take any foreign exams unless you have a visa and an employer abroad. It will only waste your time and money. Hospitals in the Philippines are exploiting nurses since there is an increase in supply but less demand. I'm paying for my training now in one of those hospitals. |

| today's graduating nurses need to look to nursing homes as a source of employment. I see too many recent grads that have no experience in working with the elderly! 75% of all hospital admissions are age-related. I say go get the experience and the reward of working with older patients for a few years before you start looking for your magnet job. |

That is actually pretty bad advice. I know that it looks like the right answer at first but if you really look at the deeper layers you'll see that such a course of action is a big mistake.
For instance: You cannot get an occupational visa or a job in a hospital if you do not have a license yet. Therefore you MUST pass NCLEX and get licensure in the USA before you can process Visa Screening and THEN get your employer and visa.
Additionally, NCSBN statistics show a breakdown of knowledge among NCLEX takers. The statistics show that the passing rate drops by 5 to 10 percentage points per every month that a nurse candidate delays taking NCLEX.
Once you have a license then you can renew it, endorse it and all that other fun stuff until you are able to work your way through the visa process.
If you don't have a license then you really can't even get started.

My employer paid for my visa application by just having a local license. 2 years after I got my local licensure exam I took the NCLEX just a one time deal and I passed. Renewal for the US license is not that cheap and I've been doing it for quite sometime now. It's been 3 years since my visa was processed and up to now it's still pending. In my opinion looking at the economy of US it would take a looooong time for me to have the visa or maybe forever! Not the greener pasteur I've been hoping for. So go ahead try your luck and be prepared financially.  |

Get the experience from a nursing home? I'm in the Philippines! We don't have nursing homes here or maybe just one. Cannot work there because no hiring. You won't understand the situation until you experience it. |

Been there and possibly will be exploited again hay. Grabe sa Iloilo, it's 5,000 a month for 8 months.
