One mission I have in life is to utilize the gifts I have been given, to improve the world today.

I never thought the paths that my nursing career would have led me down, but so far, they have been more rewarding and exciting than I ever could have imagined.

My experience as a Registered Nurse has all been in the arena of the Emergency Department. Here I have had the pleasure to care for individuals from all walks of life and from every age group across the lifespan. Through this time, I have gained a new perspective on life. I have learned that anything can happen to anyone at any time. We all are blessed with every day we are here on this earth, and this should never be taken for granted. This is best summed up with a quote by Augusten Burroughs, “When you have your health, you have everything. When you do not have your health, nothing else matters at all.”

My experience in the Emergency Department has lead me to continue my education and pursue an advanced nursing degree to become a Family Nurse Practitioner. My mission as a Family Nurse Practitioner will be to connect with the community about importance of health promotion, prevention and safety. It is my hopes that through this my patients will: have a longer and increased quality of life, decrease the number of preventable visits to the Emergency Department and they will be motivated to take an active role in their overall health.

In the midst of all of this, I started writing for the nursing website nursetogether.com. There I am able to spread words of wisdom, encouragement and experience to fellow members of the nursing community. To me, it is amazing that my writings will be able to be read my nurses around the world.

I am excited to see what the future holds for my current projects along with the future when I pair my Family Nurse Practitioner education with my entrepreneurial spirit. Only time will tell, but I could not be more excited for the journey.

Congratulations! You have just graduated nursing school, passed your boards and received your first job as a Registered Nurse at Code Blue Regional Hospital and Medical Center. Every new employee receives a copy of the hospital’s own book, Code Blue! Now What?, an interactive journey that sheds light on all of the insider details that go into a Code Blue! It is one thing to be taught how to perform CPR and gain a certification, but did you learn about: Prevention? Leadership? Teamwork? Knowing your limitations? How to prepare your patient? Owning your arena? Getting in with the family? Well you will learn this and much more. By the end of this book, you will have gained insight on issues and topics that take years for nurses to learn. Are you ready?
