Kathy Quan RN BSN has been a nurse for over thirty years. After a couple of years of med surg nursing in a local hospital during a previous critical nursing shortage, she pursued her goal of becoming a home health nurse.

She has been a field nurse, a nursing supervisor and a quality improvement specialist. Throughout her career, two of her favorite things have always been patient education and mentoring new nurses. She started two websites for home health professionals in the late 1990’s, HomeHealth101.com and Housecalls-Online.com.

Kathy has always loved to write and when she found an opportunity to combine writing and nursing she grabbed it. In 2004, she became the Guide to Nursing at About.com. She held this position until Nov. 2007, when About.com chose to combine the nursing site into a new health careers site. At that time, Kathy started TheNursingSite.com as a new home for her articles. She also writes TheNursingSiteBlog.

In 2006, she was asked to write The Everything New Nurse Book for Adams Media. This was such a success that they have repurposed it into 150 Tips and Tricks for New Nurses which will be published in Feb. 2009. Kathy also wrote The Everything Guide to Careers in Health Care in 2007. Her latest book, The Everything Guide to Caring for Your Aging Parents will also be published in Feb. 2009.
