Should There Be a Dress Code in Nursing?
Some people may be used to seeing you without your hair down, and patients may have grown up with the nurse in the white uniform but like your mauve scrubs much better. All the same, just be aware and consider that you may have to make some changes. Whatever happens, let people see you as an individual, a professional, and as a nurse.
Controversial aspects of the nursing dress code.
Kudos to LPNs and RNs: New Jersey and New York BSN Bills Have Not Yet Been Passed
The passage of the BSN in NJ or in NY would have mandated the BSN to be the level of entry into nursing. There should be a freedom of choice. If an RN or LPN wants to further pursue their education, then it should be up to each individual nurse. But it's not yet over. Both bills have been diverted to “committees”. In the name of all the 3.1 million real nurses in the United States, write to these specific committee members now.
Restore nurses' power for patients’ sake.
Celebrating and Remembering Nurses Around the World
We walk on the paths made by the generations of nurses who sacrificed and toiled before us. Celebrating our history and accomplishments does not pave the road for others. Remember that while many nurses are trusted and privileged, many of our fellow nurses struggle around the world for education, recognition, and the most basic access to health care system resources.
The power of Nursing comes from our unity and diversity.
Florence Nightingale “Tweets” to Nurses with Disabilities
Florence Nightingale may be one of the first nurses on record to practice with a disability. It is reported that she heard voices and suffered through periods of severe depression that kept her bedridden. If Florence Nightingale were alive today, would she be on Twitter? If so, her tweets might look like this.
Think about the number of “followers” she would have!
